A few days ago, the county commissioners in neighboring Boulder-Springs terminated their entire audit staff without notice. One of the commissioners, who wants to remain nameless for obvious reasons said, "We hired these people to look for theft and stuff. You know, like employees taking pens and notebooks, stuff like that. The next thing we knew this woman who headed the audit team was looking in management issues. Nobody said anything about looking into any of that. She's looking at policies, procedures--looking to make sure people are following the rules. Hell, we're commissioners, we don't have to follow any damned rules. We make the rules for regular people."
When asked about particular policies that were being investigated the commissioner declined comment.
More on this story as it develops. The Statesman admits to being very naive in thinking that county commissioners would have to follow the same rules as the rest of us. We assume that most of them have a run for Congress on their agendas.
